Museum of Art and History
Built in a modern style at the heart of the old town, the Langres Museum of Art and History invites you to discover the Bacchus Mosaic from the 2nd century AD,
the archeological collection (Prehistory, Roman period, Egypt), the art galleries (Tassel, Michelin, Gillot), sculptures (Bouchardon, Petitot), and decorative arts (pottery from Aprey, pewter, cutlery from Langres).
The Ramparts
The path around the battlements takes the visitor around the old town.Tis pleasant walk takes you past the 7 gates and the 12 towers that serve to illustrate how this stronghold was extended during the period from the Hundred Years War through to the 19th century. The magnificent views from the ramparts stretch far into
the distance.
Cathedral and Cloister
The Cathedral of Saint-Mammès was built between 1150 and 1196 in the heart of the canon area. The building style incorporates vestiges of Burgundian-Roman influence and some cautious attempts at Gothic style. The original façade was replaced in the 18th century by a classsical façade. The cathedral's majestically large interior is 94 m in length and the dome in 23 m high. The main nave gives an impression of width due to the pillars, through which the chancel can be seen, being built at ever wider intervals.
Free organ concerts are held from 15th July to 26th August every Sunday afternoon at 5 pm
Navarre Tower
20 m high and 30 m diameter and with 7 m thick walls - an impressive, Renaissance defensive post, unique in France. Of particular interest are the chestnut wood roof structures, the spiral ramp for moving artillery, and the two vaulted bunkers. The tower was opened in 1521 by François 1st.
